Why
network?
Although
we do get to deal with humans occasionally when we do consultations,
after that you may never see the owner of one of your charges again.
One of the many reasons a lot of us get into this industry is the
fact that you are not forced to deal with people as the major part
of what you're doing to make a living. Although the prospect of not
dealing with people most of the time does sound attractive there is
a downside.
There are some reasons that networking with other sitters is a good
idea. First off, you may not believe this can happen to you, but
burnout happens to all of us after a while. And you can hit burnout
like a brick wall. As has happened to other sitter's frustration
sets in and suddenly what was a dream job becomes something you just
can't face any more. Many a pet sitter has left the industry because
of this job burnout. Networking with other sitters can give you the
option of having someone to cover your sits for you when you take a
well-deserved and needed time out.
Another
reason networking is helpful is there is no better way to save time,
money and frustration than to learn from the mistakes of others.
Being around other sitters can be a resource for a wealth of
information. Especially from sitters that have been in the industry
longer than you have.
Keeping
up with what is new in the industry and closely connected industry
keeps you up to date and well informed. You can become essential to
your clients with information on up to date pet care and a source of
information to your clients. It's also great to know that while your
running from client to client throughout your day, you not
alone.
